Skullcandy: An Exploration Into Watch Design

Using Skullcandy as my inspiration, I set upon my self, a goal to explore differnt forms and designs of the wrist watch. Evaluating different styles and brands, Skullcandy was a company that I had not thought of to design a wrist watch. Knowing this, I used the products origionally designed by Skullcandy, such as head phones and other accessories, to guide my designs.

Developing a wrist watch that was inspired by a brand who only makes head phones and other audio accessories was difficult. But once I understood the specific aesthetic of Skullcandy, designs began to come to life. Understanding each head phone and its shape with certain elegant lines helped develop certain concpets. After conceptualization, one design in particular stood out among the rest that captured the true aesthetic of Skullcandy.

Under Armour Concept: Protective Catchers Gear

My background is sports. I grew up playing baseball and football, and one key characteristic that is similar between my love for both sports is my passion for the design of each piece of gear. I was always so excited to buy new gear for the new season. Therefore I decided to evaluate existing designs, and create a new concept for an existing brand.

The sport I wanted to enhance was baseball, and the existing brand I had chosen was Under Armour. In baseball, my position was the catcher. The catcher is the captain on the field and deserves respect among the other players. That is why Idecided to chose Under Armour, because their brand demands respect in each piece of gear they design. In understanding that, I knew that baseball catchers gear is one piece of equipment that is under designed. My goal was to create a new concept that utilized a new concept for Under Armour cathcers gear that ultimately protected the catcher better and demanded respect.

Iero: Solution for Disaster Relief

Hurricanes and other natural disasters have one thing in common, and that is displacement among refugees. When a natural disaster hits some people stay. For those people who stay in their homes during a harsh natural disaster they are creating a health risk. Not just during the disaster, but after the storm is gone many people are left with out homes or a comfortable place to sleep that is sanitary.

The question to ask was how can I implement a certain design that was multiuse, easy to use, durrable, and sanitary? That question was answered by a simple Greek word. Iero, meaning sancturay or safe haven in Greek. Taking in mind certain permameters and demographics, I designed a multiuse, easy to use, durrable, and sanitary backpack. The design of the backpack was not just to carry items for a displaced citizen, but to also unfold into a complete living santuary for people affected by a natural disaster.

SCAD Pad: Alternate Acedemic Living Solution

In the US, there are many unique opportunites that design can help develop our lifestyle and expectations of life as we know it. All over the country there are many parking garages that are not being utilized which consume a lot of space. With the help of SCAD, SCAD Pad was born to utilize unwanted parking structures and revitalize their image. SCAD Pad is a portable living unit that will house students in the Spring of 2014 in SCAD Atlanta.

This was an opportunity for me, provided by SCAD, to better the lifestyle of others and help utilize my design skills to ultimately affect design in itself. This new style of living in a condesed area, provides a common aesthetic of nothing tangable, but an idea of being able to live with what you need versus what you want.  Creating unique designs to utilize the space within a 200 square foot area was not only a challenge, but was certainly an experience. Developing a nationwide product from the ground up while collaborating with real life clients is always a great experience inside and out.
